Marathon Man - 10 Marathons in 2013!

Marathon Man – 10 Marathons in 2013!

The Triple Crown is here … In making the drive in I realised that I had missed the turn and was heading into San Francisco rather than Lake Merced. I soon exited and travelled across town using the iphone as my guiding light to the start line.

Arriving at a large carpark it was soon apparent this was a regular meeting spot for many running groups on the weekend and soon a number of people arrived to run the 5k, 10k, Half and Marathon events. There were some runners that had started early and I was one of only a select few running the marathon among a larger group taking on the shorter events.

The course was a 7.5km loop around a scenic lakeside setting. There was lots going on around the lake with rowing crews training on the river, couples walking and running, kids planting trees plus a Clay Pigeon Shooting Range amongst many other things.

Day 1: I was really pleased that the stomach issues seem to have improved although I am most certainly feeling very tight with major stress in the right Achilles and preliminary dramas in the left Achilles. It would be important to rest and manage this over the next few days to bring home the Triple Crown. Now time to prepare and get ready for marathon number 9 in 2013 ahead of the big San Francisco 49s vs Atlanta Falcons NFL Playoffs game.

Day 2: The second race of the Triple Crown Marathon series… I noticed more around Lake Merced today including San Francisco State University Campus, Dragon Boat Racing and picturesque gold course on the run. The right Achilles felt a little better although was pacing it out following the marathon yesterday and with the knowledge that there was another one to ahead tomorrow.

Day 3: The third and final race of the Triple Crown Marathon series to round out the Martin Luther King long weekend. Following the finish today I realised that I had won the marathon – woohoo!! The race organisers then advised me that I had in fact been the first male for all three days.
